Siyoli's enthusiasm, love for the game and devotion to development squash shines through at this event. Always accessible, always positive and always full of insightful comments, she brings a bubbly energy to her signature event which is a breath of fresh air when compared to the traditional WPYS tournaments.
Well done for getting Ekapa on to a digital platform, well done on pulling the appropriate people in to help you, and well done for producing a worthy tournament out of the entries you received.
And congratulation on your Prize Giving speech - affirming and thought provoking, and the insight on squash coaches was valuable...
Was disappointed to see the lack of support from WPYS which is an indictment on their commitment to developing squash. No communication from the WPYS Committee, not a single selector present at any of the three days (astounding given some of the selection challenges that lie ahead for IPT) and no visible support pre, during or post the event.
I would like to propose that the Ekapa Open forms part of the WP Team selection criteria (along with the Boland Open) as making a team comprises so much more than ranking your mettle against the folk you play against all the time. Notions of commitment to the game, a player's enthusiasm for competition, their willingness to go the extra mile and most importantly, to rise above the small-town mentality about your ability, are worthy markers for a developing player.
